What tasks can we annotate?

1. Daily Life Tasks:

  • Focus on commonly used apps or websites, such as email, Google Docs, Excel, Zoom, etc. The everyday tasks people often perform on their PCs.

Example

Task 1: Set up a Zoom meeting for this Sunday with JL by finding his email address from XLANG Lab Slack.

Description: Step 1: Open the Zoom application. Step 2: Navigate to the Schedule page. Step 3: Enter a meeting Topic and select the Date & Time for this Sunday. Step 4: Open the XLANG Lab Slack channel. Step 5: Search for JL's email address in the Slack channel. Step 6: Enter JL's email address in the meeting invite and enable the Waiting Room option. Step 7: Save the scheduled meeting in Zoom. Step 8: Save the meeting schedule to Google Calendar.

2. Personalized Tasks:

  • If you are familiar with or interested in some apps or websites, such as music apps, HKU portal, Twitter, Intagram, Reddits, photoshop tools, video editing tools, gaming platform, ..., you can think of tasks that you usually do on these apps and websites. You can annotate tasks one by one or use the app for 15 minutes or longer and then segment them into individual tasks.

Example

Task 1: Play a song on QQ Music, post a comment, and like a comment.

Description: Step 0: Open the QQ Music application. Step 1: Input the song name in the search bar. Step 2: Search for the song and select it from the results. Step 3: Play the selected song. Step 4: Post a comment about the song. Step 5: View the comments section. Step 6: Like one of the comments.

3. Tasks with Professional Knowledge:

  • If you have experience with professional tools like VMware, AWS, Google Cloud, pgAdmin, etc., or workflows that are typical in your work, feel free to annotate these.

Example

Task 1: Create a DynamoDB table named 'agent-data-table' on AWS.

Description: Step 1: Open the DynamoDB create table webpage on AWS. Step 2: Enter 'agent-data-table' as the table name. Step 3: Specify the partition key for the table. Step 4: Specify the sort key for the table. Step 5: Click on the 'Create table' button.

Task 2: Create a VPC named 'my-test-vpc' with its subnet and internet gateway.

Description: Step 0: Access the AWS Management Console. Step 1: Navigate to the VPC section. Step 2: Create the VPC by setting the name to 'my-test-vpc' and specifying the CIDR block. Step 3: Create a subnet by selecting the newly created VPC, setting the subnet name, CIDR block, and availability zone. Step 4: Create an internet gateway, set the name, and attach it to the VPC.

4. Task Tutorial List:

  • We have provided a task tutorial list: link. There are three task categories: Web, OS, and Apps.

  • You can browse the task descriptions and pick the task that you are familiar with or interested in, put your email in the "Annotator" column, and annotate the task following the "instrutions". Note: For the first few weeks, we encourage you to come up with tasks on your own, rather than relying on the provided list.
